10 reasons businesses change IT support
I speak to a lot of business owners who are unhappy with their IT company. The same frustrations come up again and again. If more than a couple of these sound familiar, it may be time for a change.
- They can’t show you results You should be able to see what your IT company does for you, in plain English.
- Poor communication Slow replies, surprise updates and call-backs that never come.
- They don’t take security seriously Some IT companies don’t protect their own data, let alone yours.
- “Sorry, that’s not covered” If it’s technology and it affects your business, a partner finds a way.
- Things take too long to fix Waiting days for a reply is downtime you’re paying for twice.
- Nobody takes responsibility Being told to ring your software supplier yourself isn’t support.
- They baffle you with jargon If you can’t understand each other, the partnership won’t work.
- You’re not learning anything Your team needs to know how to spot a scam, not just hope someone else will.
- They’re always selling new kit Get the foundations right first, then plan upgrades so they’re never a surprise.
- You’ve outgrown them Sometimes a growing business simply needs more than its IT company can give.
The guide explains each one, and what a good IT partner does instead.
5 questions to ask any IT company before you sign
IT support is completely unregulated. Anyone can call themselves an IT support company, with no qualifications and no standards to meet. So be sceptical of everyone, including us, and ask questions that show how a company really works.
In the guide I explain what a good answer sounds like, and give you our own answers so you can hold us to them.
- “How quickly will problems be fixed?”
- “What do you do proactively, so my team has fewer interruptions?”
- “Tell me about the people who’ll look after us.”
- “Can you explain something technical in a way I’ll understand?”
- “How will you keep up with the changes in my business?”
Your data is the most valuable thing you own
Working from anywhere has made data easier to reach, for your team and for criminals. AI now writes scam emails in perfect English, and attackers can sit unnoticed in a network for weeks before they strike.
Chapter 4 explains how attacks really happen, the warning signs that someone is already inside your network, and why the best protection combines the right tools with a team who knows what to look for.
