Get It Green: What Our Free IT Audit Actually Looks At

Most business owners know their IT could be better. Far fewer know exactly where the problems are, which ones matter, and what fixing them would cost.

That’s what our free IT audit is for. We call our process Get It Green, because the aim is simple: show you where your IT stands today, then agree a plan to get every area into the green.

Here’s what actually happens.

How long it takes

The audit takes around half a day. Most of it happens at your premises, with a little time talking to you and anyone else who looks after your IT. We work around your team, so there’s very little disruption.

There’s no cost and no obligation. If you decide not to work with us, you still keep the report.

What we look at

We look at everything that keeps your business running, not just the computers.

Your devices

Every computer, laptop, server, printer and mobile device: how old it is, whether it’s still supported, whether it’s getting security updates and whether it’s protected. Older machines that can’t run Windows 11 are a common finding.

Your network and internet

Your internet connection, router, firewall and Wi-Fi. Is the connection reliable and fast enough? Is there a backup if it fails? Is your Wi-Fi secure, and is guest access kept separate from your business systems?

Your accounts and email

Who has access to what. We check whether two-step sign-in is switched on, whether people who’ve left still have active accounts, and whether administrator access is limited to the people who need it.

Your security

Email filtering, virus and threat protection, how quickly updates are installed, and how well you’d cope if someone clicked on the wrong link. We also look at whether you’d meet the requirements for Cyber Essentials, which many contracts and insurers now ask for.

Your backups

What’s backed up, where it’s stored, how long copies are kept and, crucially, whether anyone has ever tested restoring it. We include Microsoft 365, which many businesses assume Microsoft backs up for them.

Your suppliers and software

Who provides your broadband, phones, software and hardware, when contracts renew, and who to call when each one goes wrong. Many businesses are surprised how many suppliers they have.

Your people

We ask you and your team what’s frustrating them. The problems people put up with every day are often the quickest wins.

The red, amber and green report

Afterwards, we turn everything we’ve found into a simple report. Each area is marked:

  • Green: in good shape, nothing urgent to do
  • Amber: working, but needs attention soon, or carries some risk
  • Red: needs fixing, because it’s unsupported, unprotected or likely to cause problems

The report shows your IT at a glance, on a page or two, without the jargon. Many clients tell us it’s the first time their IT has really made sense to them.

Alongside where you are today, the report shows a target: what your IT looks like with every red and amber area turned green.

The plan

We then talk the report through with you and agree the priorities. Not everything needs doing at once. Some fixes are quick and cost nothing. Others, like replacing old computers, can be planned and spread over the year.

You’ll also get a clear monthly price for looking after your IT, based on what we’ve found. Our price is published on our IT support pricing page, so there are no surprises.

Keeping it green

If you decide to work with us, we put the plan in place, usually getting the essentials secure and stable within the first 30 days. After that, we look after everything day to day, monitor your systems around the clock, and review your report with you regularly, so it stays green.

There’s no lock-in for your first year. If we’re not right for you, you’re free to leave.

What our clients say

“The whole process was far smoother than we expected… My Tech Team managed the whole transition from start to finish and made what could have been a major change feel straightforward.”
